This week we have an out-of-this-world treat for Star Wars™ fans and retro gamers! Not only can you enjoy the classic Super Star Wars™ on Virtual Console but also other Star Wars™ themed Wii Channel activities.
Thanks to our partnership with LucasArts, over the next month you can enjoy Star Wars™ Mii creation contests on the Mii Contest Channel, while the Everybody Votes Channel will be asking you to vote on hot topics like: “Who shot first – Han or Greedo?”
The Force stays strong on Virtual Console, too, because in the weeks ahead you will also be able to download Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back™ and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™. And you can look forward to more LucasArts classics coming to Virtual Console in the future!
Back down to Earth, there’s also plenty more happening in the Wii Shop Channel and Nintendo DSi Shop this week.
Joining Super Star Wars™ on Virtual Console is the original version of SEGA’s classic arcade game Golden Axe™. On WiiWare you can work magnetic forces in the electric puzzle game MAGNETIS™, while young children can learn and have fun with Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 1.
You can also visit the Nintendo DSi Shop and get creative with MySims™ Camera. Plus, budding cartoon creators can get fresh inspiration with the first in a series of Flipnote Studio animations created by the geniuses at Aardman.
VIRTUAL CONSOLE – Super Star Wars™ (LucasArts, Super Nintendo, 800 Wii Points)
The first chapter of the epic Super Star Wars trilogy blasts on to Virtual Console, combining classic action gaming with high-octane vehicle levels!
Luke’s journey takes him from the desert wastelands of Tatooine to the hostile streets of Mos Eisley and beyond, into the stars. Along the way he partners up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, both formidable blaster wielders. The three heroes will have to face bizarre aliens, Imperial stormtroopers, TIE fighters and much more in their battle to take down the evil Empire and its terrible Death Star.
So grab your blaster, strap on your lightsaber and take on the fight for galactic freedom!
VIRTUAL CONSOLE – Golden Axe™ (SEGA, VIRTUAL CONSOLE ARCADE, 900 Wii Points)
The original arcade game that launched the immensely popular Golden Axe series is now available through Virtual Console!
The villainous Death Adder has taken the king and his daughter prisoner, and only three brave warriors have stepped forward to oppose him. The powerful barbarian, Ax Battler, the skilled Amazon warrior, Tyris Flare, and the mighty dwarf, Gilius Thunderhead, must use their weapons and magic to fight their way through Death Adder’s evil hordes! Along the way, they’ll mount fearsome, fire-breathing beasts to help even the odds.
Team up with a friend and enjoy two-player simultaneous gameplay for a better chance of survival against Death Adder’s fearsome hordes!
WiiWARE – MAGNETIS™ (YULLABY, 500 Wii Points)
MAGNETIS is all about attraction – connect the magnets to create electric explosions. Solving this frenzied puzzle will require quick thinking and foresight, anticipating connections in order to generate massive chain reactions to win the highest number of points.
To get rid of blocks and score points, you must create lines by connecting same colour left and right magnets by using conductor blocks. The longer the line, the more points it is worth.
Team up with your friends in cooperative mode or play against them in battle mode, with up to four players competing for the highest score.
WiiWARE – Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 1 (LEXIS NUMRIQUE, 500 Wii Points)
Welcome to the world of the PooYoos, the first fun poetic brain trainer for children 3-6 years old.
With the PooYoos, a merry band of adorable baby animals, children will have fun while learning the basics for development: numbers, letters, lateralisation, shapes, colours and more. Children get to dance with their new friends and are offered lovely interactive rewards. There are two levels of interactivity, so children can play whatever their age.
This game has been designed for use by children who have not yet grasped reading.
NINTENDO DSiWARE – MySims™ Camera (Electronic Arts, 200 Nintendo DSi Points)
MySims Camera is a fun application that utilises popular MySims characters.
You can take photos and overlay 3D MySims characters to bring them into the real world. The 3D characters can be animated, moved, scaled, rotated and cropped. You can also draw on the photos with the stylus or use the stamp tool to add more art and style.
Create a unique frame and save the photos to the DSi photo album to share with friends!
