Welsh animation outfit Griffilms’ new iPhone App has topped the charts in Greece beating even the world renowned Angry Birds which has sold millions worldwide. “We are totally confounded by this but it’s a nice surprise” said creator Dylan Jones.
Caernarfon based Griffilms recently created “Cerrig Peryg” the first ever iPhone game purely in the Welsh language. “I don’t know what it is about with us and Greece, but this Welsh language game even got to number 3 in the Arcade section of the Greek App charts! Maybe there is a little Patagonia somewhere near the Aegean!”
Griffilms Animation Studio first opened it’s doors almost 20 years ago in 1992 when it created the animation for TV shows like Tony Hart’s “HARTBEAT” on BBC TV. Since then Griffilms has created hours of television including the film based on the legend of Gelert.
“Animation has a big part to play in converging media” according to MD Hywel Griffith: “it lends itself naturally to the new media and we are currently in the process of creating Apps for some well-known organizations who see Apps as a way to get their message across!”
“The App market is a great way of bringing turnover into Wales. The rise in the mobile phone App market has been phenomenal with over 10 billion sold to date or to put it another way 3000 times the population of Wales”.
Griffilms will be making a new worldwide release for a brand new App game with a well known Welsh name in May this year.
