As the title states, supermarket juggernaut Asda is to discontinue the sale of Wii U consoles and games.
However the console and its library will continue to be sold via the Asda Direct website.
“Asda continues to offer customers a selection of Wii U games and accessories through Asda Direct, but these ranges are currently not on offer in Asda shops,” a spokesperson has said.
Asda have not directly stated why this decision has been made or whether it is a permanent one but speculatively the poor sales of the Wii U in the UK – and worldwide – is a reason.
Ironically all this happens during a time when Nintendo have begun to release new titles for the console with both Pikmin 3 and New Super Luigi Bros U having just entered the top 20 chart. A strong lineup is due for the console as well, with The Wonderful 101 and Rayman Legends slated for this August.
