The actual nuts and bolts behind Microsoft�s Kinect technology – a natty system called PrimeSense – is not MS exclusive, and is to be expected to be integrated into TVs and HTPCs by the end of the year.
The twin camera idea was actually developed and licensed out to Microsoft by a third party, and therefore is available for integration into a variety of devices. However, the voice recognition and tilt sensors are not part of the deal, being Microsoft in-house developments instead.
So, the ability to control your TV by waving your hands about like an idiot will soon be a dream come true for housewives everywhere.
