Mastered how to use the A button? Then get this!
I have to admit, when I first saw this I didn’t know what to expect. I thought it looked quite interesting, like a Final Fantasy meets Dynasty Warriors combo. What I got was a lazy attempt at making a game that appeals to people who love to kill.
It’s in all good bargin bins now
Now I know what to expect from a hack and slash game. There is a chance that it may get a little repetitive but throw in some interesting enemies, perhaps some interesting combos and challenging objectives then I’ll be inclined to play some more. But at every aspect of this game which you look at, you think ‘Christ, Microsoft could’ve done a lot better’.
It’s a shame, because this had the potential to be something a bit different, promising an emotional storyline for all seven playable characters. What you get is the chance to be thrown into the middle of a story which has built up from nothing, which leads to a flat conclusion and nothing but crappy voiceacting and a cliched script to guide you there.
This is no fun to play. You’ll find yourself trapped in some sort of horrible limbo that doesn’t seem to want to end (Walk across expansive yet empty land-kill group of enemies-repeat whilst wondering whether you could stab yourself to death with a biro), and even when some action finally does happen, don’t expect a clash of the titans. Just flatten your right hand, mash the buttons with your palm and it should guarentee victory. If it doesn’t, expect to go all the way back to the start of the level, if you haven’t hurled the controller through the screen.
Credit where credit is due, there are some nice CGI cutscenes, but everything else looks as nice as an ostrich stuck in a microwave. It’s hard to distinguish which are swarms of men fighting and which are just pixels the developer decided to throw in because they were so bloody lazy.
With all this, plus a glitched achievement system, it’s best to save your hard earned cash on something which will genuinely impress you and leave you wanting more…like a lava lamp. Seriously, it’ll be money well spent in comparison. If you like hack and slash games, buy Dynasty Warriors. If you like wasting your time, buy this. It’s in all good bargin bins now.
The Bad: Horrible looking everything else, Vague and uninteresting story, Lacks any imagination
Stinker Award!
