Warriors Orochi Review (360)

Dynasty Warriors meets Samurai Warriors- Head on

Ever wondered what would happen if the worlds of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors met head on in an unholy allegiance against a common enemy.. Well, thanks to the people at Koei, now you don’t have to imagine. The Orochi from the title is none other than the evil serpent King Orochi. This mean mutha has managed to manipulate time and space just so he can pit his wits against the most powerful and courageous warriors from ancient China & Feudal Japan.

For all the newbies out there this is probably the best time to get into the Warrior games

That is the story behind the latest epic hack n slash beat em up from the masters of the genre. Anyone who has played any of the previous games in the 2 franchises will be wetting themselves in anticipation of this ultimate team-up. For all the newbies out there this is probably the best time to get into the Warrior games. Gameplay consists of picking three heroes (with different characteristics and strengths- quicker, stronger or more technically proficient) and going into battle with your army. Each battle has a set path and is pretty linear, but the fighting mechanics and combo system make progress a joy. This game is jam packed full of insane combos and each character has different fighting styles to play about with.

Graphically this is a HD feast of colour and fluid movement with some cracking slo mo when mega combos are pulled off. To make things more interesting you can pick up loads of weapons from your fallen foes, then forge them together with your own weapon to make a better one for the next battle. Also your chosen hero can level up. Swapping between you 3 heroes is just the tap of a button away, and the transition is very smooth. The sounds of the battlefield are loud and realistic (or so I’d imagine!) and the musical score is very atmospheric.

Warriors OrochiSo there you have it. If you are a fan of either series then this will be one of the best games you will buy this year.- the chance to play over 70 of the characters from dynasty warriors & samurai warriors series in the most epic adventure so far. On the other hand, there is nothing all that new here. Just the same formula with a next gen makeover and a few neat touches, nothing more, nothing less. If you ever fancied trying one of these games, now is the time. Forget PS3`s Genji, this is the real deal.

The Good: Excellent graphics, great action & stunning combos
The Bad: Linear levels & not enough variation in gameplay.
