Sony today took another step towards 3D domination, with the announcement of a new 3D visor kit aimed at the home gamer. The headset features dual 720p HD OLED displays, which display both 2D and 3D video, along with an integrated pair of 5.1 surround sound headphones.
Each eye gets its own 0.7 inch display, offering a full 3D experience without the headache, ghosting and other downsides of single display 3D. To top it off, the whole system is described as “surprisingly comfy”, and is set to retail at approximately $799 in the US.
No dates for EU as of yet (although speculation suggests early next year), but to be fair, it looks pretty cool, carrying a Tron vibe with a hint of Star Trek Next Gen. And although the system appears to be aimed primarily at PS3 gamers, the device will function with all standard 3D and non 3D devices.
