A new world record! 999 Players in 1 FPS (PC)

We did it! Well, sort of. The new world record for the number of players in a single first player shooter is 999 players, a single player short of our goal. No matter, all of us at MuchDifferent are happy and excited to finally have broken the record and made history in the process. At 16.04.29 CET, Man was winning the battle against Machine as 999 people were part of a new world record. About a second later our server choked on the enormous number of people trying to get in to the game. We were receiving a far higher number of requests than we were expecting. But the server was restarted and during the next hour and a half we were averaging somewhere around 980 players at any given moment. Proving that PikkoServer can take the strain and deliver an entirely new multiplayer experience never seen before.

PikkoServer, the server and network technology used to make all of this possible, we believe can be applied to just about any game engine used today. Our goal now is to make this technology available to developers worldwide.

The world record number has been confirmed by an independent expert who was observing the game as it was taking place. Confirmation from the Guinness World Records Gamer Edition will take a few more days but we are supremely confident that our world record will be included in their next edition.

We are very grateful to all of the players and developers that participated in making this unique experience reality and helped us break the world record.
