You can’t judge every gadget by its cover.
I love my ‘job’. People send me things and ask me to give people my opinion. I get a mixed bag of things, I have to admit. It has become pretty easy to judge if a gadget will be of any use straight from the packaging. However, as it turns out, I am not always right. Konnet Power Pyramid proved me very wrong. When I saw it, I was underwhelmed to say the least. Sure it was an interesting shape, a little like a pyramid shaped version of a Gordian knot, but it was in the “Do I really have any need for this” camp. The Konnet Power Pyramid is designed to allow you to recharge your PS3 and Xbox 360 wireless controllers. It has four connectors on, two too connect and charge your PS3 controllers and two for Xbox controllers. Each connector has a little platform that holds the controller securely in place.
This is a handy and well constructed gadget
Plug the Pyramid in and you are greeted with a little blue glow at its peak. When you plug a controller in, the connector glows red to signal that it is not fully charged. This switches to blue when the controller has finished charging. The build is pretty solid and all the devices that I connected felt secure. Again, at first I had no idea why I might want this “Christmas Tree” like device (my four year olds description) in my already packed gaming set up. This same question has been the main reason it has take so long to write this very short review. The answer came after a couple of weeks of using it constantly. I found that it had become an integral part of my set up, rather than an unwanted addition. Rather than having charging cables running about with all of the other cables I have lying around, there is just one power lead running behind my bookcase and I am able to charge all my controllers straight from there. I no longer have to have my consoles switched on or even plugged in, just to charge the controllers. Simple, yet highly useful!
If I had a criticism, it would become infinitely more use if it were to have a couple of standard USB ports. Then I could use it to charge anything else I wanted (like my phone or my OnLive controller). It is a minor gripe though. [imh]This is a handy and well constructed gadget. If you have a PS3 and an Xbox and get a little bit of cash this Christmas, I think you would greatly appreciate the Konnet Power Pyramid. It looks pretty funky in the dark as well! Features:
