Gosh darn incredible.
The halo games, created by Bungie, will be remembered for many years to come. Hopefully new games will be released, but for now we can revel in the past. One of the games that I thought went unnoticed in all the brilliance was Halo 1 on the PC.
Halo sees you playing as Spartan 117, also known as Masterchief. You are placed into a green combat suit, and you will be fighting the covenant ( scary aliens ) to save the world. In the future of course.
Halo: Combat Evolved was first released on xbox in March 2001. It was greeted with a brilliant reception. Three years on (Yes an annoyingly long time), They decided to release it on PC.
Now if you’ve already played Halo 1, You will know how amazing the campaign is, but for those who haven’t here’s the lowdown.
The ideas for the game are genius, the types of bad guys range from Grunts, small aliens that will take less then three shots to take down, To hunters which are lean mean killing machines. The design on these aliens are incredible, and they will keep your excitement up.
To go with this the AI system is also perfected to the very last detail, including the humans on your team, they will do exactly what should be expected of them, and you can tell when they get scared, or want to attack etc.
The Game looks incredible, lush green fields, the characters look good, Amazing detail in the levels, there isn’t that much to go wrong. The game has 12 levels, With four difficulties, which leaves massive replay potential.
Now the soundtrack: This is incredible, the songs really build up the tension, and there’s some songs in there which beat songs on any other games.
Awesome everything
Also, I feel like the campaign on this game beats any other campaign in the halo series, it just has a more dramatic flair to it, Better contrasts, the flood are genuinely terrifying in this game, and the cutscenes are just awesome.
The vehicle and weapon set are either the best or one of the best in any fps I’ve played. Awesome sniper rifle, awesome pistol, awesome shotgun, awesome assault rifle. Awesome everything, including sticky grenades which are just fun.
Now we’ll move onto the best part of the game, at least for me Which is the multiplayer. The xbox version of halo was released before xbox live came out, so it meant that there were no online capabilities for the xbox version.
So for halo 1 on PC, they decided to do what they couldn’t do on the xbox version, and broaden out the multiplayer. And it was incredible, The levels were incredible the servers worked perfectly, almost no lag, And with two new levels, two new weapons, and great use of vehicles. I’d say it also beats the halo 3 multiplayer, if it had a ranking system and forge, it almost certainly would.
I would recommend this to any seasoned halo fan.. and, well, anyone! Its in my top favorite five games of all time for sure.
The Bad: Apart from the two new weapons and new levels, not that much new to the table.
