Sega have a thoroughbred history of producing top quality lightgun shooters including the Virtua Cop series and of course the House of the Dead franchise also.

this game brings you back time and time again

Ghost Squad started life in the arcades; I know this personally as I spent a few quid playing this game recently at a certain Motorway Services that will remain anonymous (since I cannot remember which one it was!). The Wii version of the game is in fact a pretty good version, encapsulating the frantic adrenalin rush that takes place while playing this game. Its fast and furious. So fast in fact it’s over in 25 minutes. Yep, you read that right, not 25 hours, but 25 minutes- perfect for pick up and play that the Wii is so good at.

I guess you are wondering why this gets such a high mark considering its length. Well read on and I’ll enlighten you. Ghost squad is made up of 3 on rails levels. Each of these levels is about 8 minutes each. Now during these three levels, you have a number of choices that open up alternate routes, so this game brings you back time and time again to try out all the combinations of routes. You also get soe cool mini games like defusing bombs & mines as well as a couple of sniper sections. Also after each play though you gain in experience and this means extra weapons and costumes.

For example you start off with a semi automatic rifle, for the second play you get a shotgun, and the third gets you a handgun. As expected each of these guns has advantages and disadvantages. These range from accuracy and power to size of magazine. You can only use one gun for each run-through so if you realise it’s a crap gun half way through a level, its tough, as you have to keep it until the end of the game. Since this game is only 25 minutes, that isn’t a problem. As for costumes you get lots of variety from desert camouflage to a Panda suit. Later on you even get the option to play against bikini-clad terrorists and to play the full game in Ninja mode- complete with ninja throwing stars!

Other reasons for this being the Wii lightgun of choice include full 4 player multiplayer, online leader boards and the most accurate targeting set up so far, especially if you are using the zapper. A word of warning though, you do need to sit the recommended distance away from the TV to get the most accurate shooting distance. I thought it was broke at first as I was only a few feet away from the TV.

The Good: Fast & furious, cool extras, awesome replayability
The Bad: Only 25 mins long, need a zapper to get full effect
