Reviews should be a minimum of 750 words in length, up to about 2000 words.
Reviews should be universally readable, so please try to keep them as clean as possible.
Reviews should be easily legible. If spelling and grammar are not of a good standard, we will either alter it so that they are, or reject it. This will depend on how bad the spelling and grammar is, and what kind of mood the editor is in. Basically, we all make mistakes, but try to keep them to a minimum.
Reviews should be well rounded, and highlight both the good AND bad points about the game, as well as the reviewers opinion.
Play a game before you review it. It seems obvious but it's impossible to write a good review of a game if you haven't spent enough time playing it. Try to play as much of the game as you possibly can before writing a review. Just because the first level is good, that doesn't mean the rest will be.
Try to be witty to keep the review interesting. This doesn't mean you have to be as funny as Bill Bailey (if you don't know of him, you should!) but try to season reviews with opinions as well as just the facts, so as not to bore your readers.
BE HONEST; don't feel obliged to give a game a high score because all of your favourite magazines did. Our readers want to know what YOU think, not what other reviewers think.
Before you write your review makes sure that we have not already published one for that platform!
The search feature is your friend.
I can't stress this enough. We receive way too many duplicate reviews, and although some of them are incredibly good, if we have already judged a review to be of publishable standard, we won't publish another review in its place. Feel free to post a paragraph in the comments for the existing review though.
Above all have fun. Games are designed to be fun, so if you had fun playing a game, let others know! Alternatively, if you thought a game was particularly bad, or even just average, let others know!
These are examples of BAD reviews. (Which I really must re-write sometime)
