The Review

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
For anyone who's ever played Quake they will know that they are a great series, always creative in their story lines and never much disappointment when it came to their looks and graphical capability. I'm not a huge player of the Quake series as I didn't really follow the story line from the beginning, however, Quake Wars: Enemy Territory doesn't follow the previous Quake story, so when I saw an amazingly well presented trailer for Enemy territory, I was convinced that I should make the purchase.

My friend and I both bought it and went straight home to test the credibility of the trailer. At first glance this game really isn't anything to be desired, maybe it's because I never really got involved with Quake but at first I was convinced that I had wasted my money. That night, my friend came round and we began to flip through the features that Enemy territory offered. Graphically, the game was very disappointing, the term "well presented trailer" was used because it seemed to us that they showed a very vague presentation of the game that seemed to put it into a very proud light. It is true that the trailer had been one of the major factors that had convinced me to buy it, and to find the game in such a state made me feel like I had been lied to. There was also the matter of the controls, again a more experienced Quake player may not have found this such a problem, but for me, it was totally new and fairly strange. However, it took a more detailed analysis to actually find out that my first impressions were just a little bit wrong.

my first impressions were just a little bit wrong
On further inspection of the game, my friend and I actually concluded that it was quite an interesting game, sure it may have been a little disappointing in terms of the graphical capability (even more disappointing considering it was on Playstation 3), but it was fun, a feature that some game creators have neglected and forgotten to put into their games. There is lots to do in the game. You can choose from a variety of classes on either the Human or Strog team, from the simple military soldier to the advanced special-ops sniper. The feeling of fun and cruelty as you watch an energy ray or missile drop from the sky and slice your opponent is one which you just don't get with other video games. Look past the graphics and temporary confusion at the controls and just dig in to this extremely entertaining peice. Bravo.
