Games and interactive entertainment trade body UKIE has today announced three new initiatives that will deliver real benefits the UK’s interactive entertainment industry: an Ian Livingstone-led developer group, becoming UKTI’s trade event partner and the formation of a UKIE Scottish Office.
Firstly, UKIE vice chair, Ian Livingstone, is to form and chair the UKIE Development Group. This group is being established to help all development studios including indie start-ups to grow and scale, helping them with the route to market and making themselves investment ready. Areas of focus will include access to finance, IP ownership and retention, skills, business and financial advice including tax credits, EIS compliance, plus advice on publishing, marketing and legal affairs.
UKIE has also announced that it has been appointed by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) as the exclusive Approved Trade Organisation for Gamescom / GDC in Cologne and GDC in San Francisco. Being the exclusive Approved Trade Association will enable UKIE to help interactive entertainment businesses to attend these key industry events. The funding for this work will be confirmed with UKTI in due course.
Finally, Scotland has long been a world leader in the creation of games and interactive entertainment. UKIE is therefore creating a Scottish Office to be able to offer Scotland’s thriving development and publishing community the support and products and services that they need to help them thrive. More details on UKIE’s Scottish Office will be announced in the coming weeks.
UKIE Chairman, Andy Payne said: “UKIE is the only the only trade body that represents the UK’s wider interactive entertainment industry. By creating a developer group, getting a presence on the ground in Scotland and being appointed as the Approved Trade organisation for Gamescom/GDC in Cologne and GDC in San Francisco we’re leading the way on delivering more of the products and services that the games industry needs.”
